St Moritz Brief Resort Overview: St. Moritz is located in the Engadine Alps of Southeast Switzerland between Zurich and Milan. St. Moritz is comprised two part St. Moritz dorf and St. Moritz bad. St. Moritz Dorf is the village above the train station and bad is the village on the valley floor which lines the lake. Both village in St. Moritz are at an altitude of approximately 1800m. The resort is well-known for the winter horse races that take place on the frozen lakes in the valley. There are quite a few boutique stores in the dorf which except for a couple of buildings is very modern. There are two main ski areas above the village; Coviglia and Corvatsch. The later provides more challenging skiing and a glacier. One unique aspect about the resort is that you can take a train over the Alps towards Bormio, Italy (via Tirano). Principal advantages of the resort: This is a glamour resort. This is a place to go to see and to be seen. There is a lot to do for non-skiers. Most of the skiing is of an intermediate level. There is even a 3rd ski area, Diavolezza, for skiers. This resort is accessible by bus and provides some more challenging terrain. You can also try heli-skiing. The high altitude of the Corvatsch ski area and its glacier and extensivs snow making combine to make for a snowsure destination.
